FSOU – Zen & the Art of Niche Sports/Leisure Website Maintenance

It is a particular pleasure of mine to have been invited by my hero and inspiration, the good Dr. Gumperteer, to contribute to this series of lectures. I owe so much to him. You see, my own site, Sport Is A TV Show, struggled for years to attain the kind of success it so richly deserved. Sure, such articles as “The 101 Greatest Manx Footballers”, “Watching Football: You’re Doing It All Wrong, You Muppet”, and “Lydersen: A Pal To Us All” attracted a golden shower of critical acclaim (“Blinding!”: The New Yorker).

But the site’s page view figures and ad revenue were John Carter embarrassing. Continue reading “FSOU – Zen & the Art of Niche Sports/Leisure Website Maintenance” »

Fredorrarci from SIATVS watched an Epic Ghana-Uruguay Rematch

There was an epic coincidence on Tuesday night when England played Ghana in London, and Ireland played Uruguay in Dublin. That’s right: Ghana and Uruguay were practically playing practically next door to each other! You would think after their controversial World Cup epic last year that FIFA would prevent such a thing from happening! Uruguay are evil! But I was surely not the only one imagining a zany sitcom premise, whereintoforewith the first episode, Asamoah Gyan is minding his own business, when who does he see moving in next door but Luis Suarez! Ruh-oh! Although, come to think of it, Suarez didn’t actually play on Tuesday. But imagine that he did! And then imagine that you imagined the sitcom thing! Epic, right? Suarez’d be all, like, “Hello, neighbour!”, and Gyan would get all angry, and a third guy, I dunno, someone who’s, like, a part-time referee or something (a nice touch, no?) would go “Ruh-oh!” Wouldn’t that be epic?

Fredo’s website still lacks banner ads. Tsk tsk.

Fredorrarci Criticizes Stephan Appiah for Criticizing Fabio Capello

Ghana captain Stephan Appiah has complained about England manager Fabio Capello’s decision to rest key players for the friendly between the teams later today, according to the BBC. I must say, I really don’t get this. Doesn’t Appiah realise that the weaker the opposition, the better the chance his team have of winning? That is the point of football, after all! It’s much like the way Dr. Gumperteer weakened the previous proprietor of this space by being so awesome that a sale was inevitable. Small wonder Dr. Mr. Gumperteer, sir, is so adept at banner clickthrough maximalisation matrixing. Wake up and smell the winning, Stephen!

Fredorrarci’s own site has no banner ads. Pity him.
